At the renowned UNICOM Technology Park, VA.

March 10, 2020 - 08:30 (EST)

Event details

Duration: One day

Commercial organizations and government agencies are digitally transforming themselves for greater efficiencies utilizing a myriad of new technologies that enable a leap-forward in capabilities. Key to this rapidly changing environment is architecture and strategy – to understand how your current business and its systems are performing so that you can craft and execute your roadmap into the future, while accounting for on-going changes and risk.

UNICOM Global is hosting the 2020 digital transformation & architecture summit to exchange best practices on digital transformation. In this symposium we have several presentations, specifically on mainframe modernization and transformation, a customer success story on how the FBI have undergone transformation, new technologies that UNICOM is offering to help with digital transformation, and techniques that customers are using to maintain and gain value from architecture. There will also be breakout sessions in the afternoon where product roadmaps of select products will be presented.

Welcome Patti Bowman, GM, Digital Business North America, UNICOM Global

UNICOM Global strategic direction & keynote Corry Hong, Founder, President and CEO, UNICOM Global Mr. Corry Hong founded UNICOM Global in Los Angeles, California in 1981. He has since built the company to be one of the fastest growing IT organizations in the world, with over 1,000 employees providing products and solutions across a broad spectrum of leading-edge technologies. In this keynote, Mr. Hong will present his vision for the company and the future – and how UNICOM is embracing and enabling its customers to build a better world.

Mainframe modernization and digital transformation - UNICOM’s experience & technology leading the way Neil Evans, Chief Technology Officer, EMEA, UNICOM Global and Joni Lehtomaki, GM Digital Business EMEA, UNICOM Global It seems clear that a mainframe renaissance is underway. Enterprises are increasingly willing to open up their mainframe platform to new workloads, including emerging areas such as blockchain and AI, due to the mainframe’s ability to handle massive IT workloads. Because of this, mainframe modernization has become a high priority in many organizations. UNICOM is a leader in mainframe software technology, and has expertise to help lead the way. In this presentation, Mr. Evans and Mr. Lehtomaki will present key ways to evolve your mainframe strategy, and demonstrate technology that UNICOM offers to help – the UNICOM Universal Gateway (UniGW®) -- a gateway to modernization for any organization running heritage IT systems. UniGW® aggregates information from multiple data sources, applications, and technology platforms to provide executives with a real-time view of the enterprise, and also acts as a digital-modernization two-way ‘gateway’ – providing drill down via web and mobile access to traditional systems tools and legacy applications. Using UniGW®, executives can gain a ‘pulse’ of what is going on in the organization so they can make strategic decisions.

Digital transformation at the FBI – part 2 (latest update) Christopher Heath, Chief Enterprise Architect, UNICOM Government The US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has recently started to digitally transform one of its branches, and has employed UNICOM Government solutions to help them in this effort. In this presentation, Mr. Heath will provide an overview (without providing any specific classified details) of how this digital transformation effort began and reached successful milestones, using UNICOM System Architect to capture as-is and to-be architecture, while working with business partner, Canon, to create a new, more efficient and more secure way of doing business.

Networking lunch

Mainframe transformation for the Cloud Jason Porter, Chief Technologist, Senior VP of Engineering, UNICOM Government, and Neil Evans, Chief Technology Officer, EMEA, UNICOM Global UNICOM Global continues to lead the way in mainframe modernization. In this presentation, Mr. Porter and Mr. Evans will discuss enabling technology to move legacy mainframe applications to the Microsoft Azure stack with UNICOM’s Universal Gateway (UniGW®) technology in a plug-and-play appliance built by US Robotics® (a division of UNICOM Global).

Integrating EA out of its Silo – the OSLC REST Story, in lurid detail Tom Piccoli, Senior Developer, UNICOM Systems The Open Service Lifecycle Collaboration REST standard is being used to provide tentacles from the enterprise architecture into other endeavors such as requirements management, change management, and the agile Continuous Lifecycle Management (CLM) process. This allows EA to be removed from any silo it might be in, and become part of a living, breathing ecosystem of information relied upon for strategic decision making. In this presentation, Mr. Piccoli will provide an overview of the value of these integrations, how OSLC REST enables them, and detail of how to set up the integrations, including gotchas to watch out for, and functionality UNICOM is working on for the future.

Ask the architecture questions – the SA reporting story Lou Varveris, Director of Product Management, UNICOM Systems The goal of enterprise architecture is being able to ask the architecture questions, get answers, and know how good those answers are. The questions come in a variety of forms and the answers come in a variety of forms. In this presentation, Mr. Varveris will cover the types of questions asked, with examples of the myriad of questions themselves, and show how System Architect produces an output for the answers.
